We are in total fangirl mode this WOW Girl Wednesday. Congratulations to 15-year old STEM advocate Gitanjali Rao, Time’s 2020 Kid of the Year. Gitanjali is a student, author, pianist, fencer, speaker, community volunteer, and science enthusiast. When Gitanjali learned about Flint, Michigan’s water crisis, she created a device that detects lead in drinking water. That project earned her a win in 2017 during the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. Her work is garnering international attention and she’s now sharing her passion and talent as a 3-time TEDx speaker, hosting innovation workshops, volunteering in her community and of course, school. Her inspiring message to kids everywhere: don’t try to fix every problem, just focus on one that excites you. “If I can to it,” she said, “anybody can do it.”
