We felt that the love in late January from so many in our Generation W and WOW communities. We are so grateful for those who were able to join us during the Generation WOW Virtual Experience, hosted in partnership with the Duval County Public School District. In true WOW spirit, it was a lovefest for girls and for the girl inside every woman. Hundreds of girls and
women connected in the positive and the possible. Enough warmth to thaw even the fiercest winter storm. The positive feedback is still pouring in. Here are a few team favorites:
“Everything was great and it made me feel like girls can do anything they put their minds to.”
“We got to hear many women who do well in life and were once unsure about their future just like us speak out and say everything will be okay.”
“Showing girls that no job is just for boys or just for girls.”
“When I got to listen to all the letters the people had for their past self. It was very sweet and I felt … encouraged.”
Other girls spoke of their feelings of being strong and speaking up, of not letting anyone tell them they could not do something and that there are things to do that they would not ordinarily think of doing. The messages were powerful. The deliverers of those messages inspired the girls.
And then there were these comments from other viewers:
“Today was like a spoonful of medicine for the mind and the heart.”
“This was AMAZING! I am so inspired… how do i bring this to Princeton?”
“WOWOWOW. What a fabulous program.”
And then my favorite comment of the day… “edges snatched, wigs pulled…”
The work of WOW continues. So many of you raised your hands to volunteer as a mentor or for our young mentees, to be uniquely matched with a mentor through our new mentorship program Connect With WOW. And if you’re not already completely WOW’d, there’s more to WOW you. I am excited to announce the launch of a new monthly virtual series, produced with presenting partner Bank of America, called
WOWsdom! LIVE. You can read all about it below. If you are, or know a girl in grades 8 to 12, I hope you will share the news and encourage them to join us virtually for the first episode. WOWsdom! LIVE kicks off this week on Thursday, February 18
th at 5 pm EST and features a very special guest, and dear friend, a sports legend, Olympic gold medalist, 6 time WNBA All Star and 2 time WNBA Champion, Taj McWilliams-Franklin. Girls in the audience will get exclusive, inside access to meet and get to know Taj, ask questions, learn what it’s really like to have to prove to her family that she had worthy goals. These are the conversations that bring girls together and remind them that they are not alone. This phenomenal flagship show promises to be a global hit with girls. Help us spread the word if you will.
Closing out the WOW list, but definitely not last, I am pleased to share the news that tickets are now available for Generation W InTENtional, in what will be our signature event of 2021, happening virtually in just a few short months on Friday, April 16
th. 2020 gave us the VISION to see what we must change. In 2021, we will be InTENtional to create the change we want to see. This milestone 10-year signature event will generate the high energy and the positive spirit that has become the signature at Generation W events, when business and community leaders, educators and all who want to be their best from around the world, come together for the unique experience. You won’t want to miss it. Generation W is always an insightful day that challenges our thinking, inspires us to action, and connects our worlds.
