Congratulations to Jacksonville’s own Rennia Davis on being selected ninth in the WNBA draft. The Ribault and University of Tennessee basketball player–who will now become a Minnesota Lynx–became the second Jacksonville player drafted into the WNBA, joining former Ribault star Erica White, who was a second-round choice, No. 17 overall, to the Houston Comets in 2008.
According to the Jacksonville Times-Union, her former Ribault High coach Shelia Seymore-Pennick showed up at the draft party and presented Davis with a framed No. 10 Ribault jersey, telling her the school was retiring her number.
“That was exciting, totally unexpected,” said Davis.
First Coast News captured this once-in-a-lifetime moment when Rennia found out her number would be retired.
